The Global Energy and Water Exchanges Project (GEWEX) Hydroclimatology Panel (GHP) was held from 10-13 December 2014 at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, California, USA. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Graeme Stephens, Director of the Center for Climate Sciences at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Co-Chair of the GEWEX Scientific Steering Group (SSG), with SSG Co-Chair Dr. Sonia I. Seneviratne. All attendees must register.
A joint meeting (open session) with representatives of the Global Drought Information System (GDIS) was held the first day of the event. Representatives of the GHP Regional Hydroclimate Projects (RHPs) and other local (JPL) and regional scientists presented on their drought related research during the joint session.
The meeting’s goal was to enhance the leadership role that GHP has in the hydrologic sciences and modeling activities within WCRP and to achieve progress in the development of the GEWEX RHPs in seasonal forecasting, the detection and attribution of change, and the development and analysis of climate projections. The GEWEX Science Questions (GSQs) (http://www.gewex.org/pdfs/GEWEX_Science_Questions_final.pdf) were at the core of the discussions, which included cross-cutting inter- and intra-panel science topics ranging from sub-daily precipitation and drought to cold regions precipitation and validation of satellite data products.
