2019 GLASS Panel Meeting by invitation only

Aug 6 - 8, 2019 | Boulder, Co, USA

AGENDA

Meeting objectives:

  • Discuss, evaluate, and add to the GEWEX vision and mission as presented in the new Science Application and Traceability Matrix (SATM) recently shared by the SSG;
  • Share progress of existing projects;
  • Determine if there are weaknesses in the current portfolio of GLASS projects, exposing scientific questions and areas where we should be promoting active coordinated research projects.

Break
Rest of the Afternoon: Discussion of potential new initiatives/areas of interest (continued).

  • Global hydrologic exchanges (Kirsten Findell)

    • Cold season process (e.g. slide on LATICE from Yeliz Yilmaz)
  • Renewable energy at the land surface, e.g., wind and solar (mentioned by Chiel van Heerwaarden)
  • Mitigation efforts at the land surface, e.g., reduction of urban heat islands through greening of urban environments (Kirsten Findell)
  • GLASS interactions with GASS:
    • DICE follow-on (YES, Mike Ek)

Morning:

  • Revisit the SATM: edits, additions, expansions
  • Representation of GLASS efforts relative to questions asked
  • Discussion of a potential PROES related to the boundary layer: how would this go beyond current DICE-type activities? How to connect with relevant GASS folks?
